Knope
Sweet Baby Jesus, if there is anyone in the government of the United States (including all three branches and right down to Leslie Knope) who has an ounce of integrity, please bless them with motivation and focus to fully investigate this Russia mess. We are way past enough already. Amen.
Sally Yates
Holy God, bless Sally Yates for every bit of truth she told today. Actually, bless everyone who told--or sought--the truth today. Grant us all a desire for honesty, knowledge, and wisdom. Amen.
France
God of Hope, bless the voters of France. May they continue to reject hatred and fear as a form of governance. Grant them constructive vision for a just future, collective will to seek it, and creative opportunities to move towards it. Amen.
Kindness
Gracious God, please bless everyone who manages to be kind. I especially lift up Kathy, a stranger who was nice for no reason. May those who offer kindness be surrounded by it. Amen.
Voters
God of Healing, I pray for voters. Bless them with long memories. Amen.
Faithful in Texas
Mighty God, bless the faith leaders in Texas who are resisting so-called "religious freedom" bills being put forth in the state. They know that such bills are not about religious freedom at all, but rather promise license to discriminate, white-washed in the language of religion. For those who refuse to use You as a justification for hatred, I give thanks. Give them strength and stubbornness. Multiply their number and increase their power. Amen.
Librarians
God of Wisdom, bless librarians. They safeguard the best of human achievement and ideals. Please give them ample funding, quiet patrons, and good bourbon. Amen.
Labor
Triune God, I give thanks for labor organizers and union members. Bless those who have gone before and those who continue the efforts today. Bless those who stand together in solidarity for justice.
Grant them stamina in the face of decades-long assaults on organized labor. Give them strength to work together and resist the "every man for himself" mentality that weakens us all. Pour Your Spirit out among them, God, and give them grace. Amen.
Courage
God of Wisdom, bless all those who are intentionally learning about how racism functions in our society so they can work for justice. I pray for the thousands gathered in Kansas City at the White Privilege Conference, for the twelve people in a book group in Charlotte, for the seminary students who sign up for classes that scare them, and for the individuals who listen when injustice is named. Grant us both humility and hope. Amen.
