Holy God, I lift up every scientist--climatologist, meteorologist, geographer, oceanographer, and all the others,too--whose work helps us understand and track weather events. Every bit of advance notice saves lives. Bless them. Amen.

Merciful God, I pray for the 16 attorneys general who are suing to prevent the current administration from ending DACA. The suit notes that rescinding the program--even though it is vastly beneficial in human and economic terms--is of a piece with the Occupant's anti-Mexican prejudice and rhetoric. Bless these public servants with clear thinking, cogent arguments, a fair hearing, and victory. Amen.

Holy God, bless Ta-Nehisi Coates. Telling the truth is, in itself, an exercise of hope. May he continue to write in fierce faithfulness to truth and profound rejection of deception. Amen.

God of Faithfulness, I pray again for Robert Mueller. In the midst of daily chaos and weekly insanity, may he continue his investigations with integrity, honesty, discipline, and all due haste. Set a hedge around him to protect him from all evil. Surround him with intelligent colleagues who are committed to the common good. Defend him from deceitfulness of every kind. Amen.

Holy God, today has been a day of intercessory prayer. I have lifted up to you sons and mothers, children and friends. Tonight, I lift up people in a different way, honoring them and asking for your blessing on their resistance. I saw this group of people outside Mitch McConnell's office in Louisville, KY, but I know that similar groups--actually, members of the same group!--met in towns and cities across the U.S. They gathered to protest the Occupant's move to rescind DACA.

God of Wisdom, I pray for every college and university administrator, every professor and teacher and counselor, who is staying up late to figure out how to protect students who are Dreamers. Help them to be sharp and clever. Give them resourcefulness, ingenuity, determination, and cunning. Amen.

Faithful God, I pray for the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect, a Jewish organization that counters prejudice and discrimination while advocating for kindness and fairness. Amen.

Holy God, bless Representative Jeff Jackson, who is leading the charge against gerrymandering in North Carolina. May justice and honesty prevail. Amen.
