Holy God, I pray for Ibtihaj Muhammad, the American Olympic fencer. Her open letter to the current president gave me hope today when hope was rather thin on the ground. As an African-American Muslim woman, she named her religious faith and her belief in the ideals of the United States as reasons she must protest the fear and hatred being spread by this administration. I watched her fence on television and was amazed by her strength and agility. Reading her letter, I had the same response. Please bless this woman. May her faith be strong, her athletic career joyful. And, God, might I suggest that she feel a call towards political leadership? Amen.
