ACT UP

Loving God, I give thanks for the members of ACT UP, activists who refused to be silent in the face of the AIDS epidemic. In the late 1980s and in the 1990s, they were political and social outliers who misbehaved in public. It was easy to view them as foolish anarchists who were trying to make change in unhelpful ways. In retrospect, their actions--combined with the work of others--saved lives. Bless them with love, kindness, compassion, and friendship. May all their days be filled with holy mischief for love's sake. Amen.
