Weary Activists

God of Lament, I am thinking tonight of activists and community leaders in the United States who are exhausted. Weary and worn out from the ceaseless barrage of discrimination, denigration, and death that rains down on black and brown communities. Many are protesting tonight in St. Louis, after the person who killed Anthony Lamar Smith walked free. Others are continuing the daily work of fighting white supremacy in cities and towns across the country. Their work is a stubborn embodiment of hope that the United States can be better. It is an adamant refusal to believe the lies of racism. It is a prophetic reminder of Your call for humanity to live in relationships of love and justice. Bless them, God. Be faithful to them. Give them rest and restoration. And help the rest of us heed their call. Amen.
