Volunteers

Merciful God, I pray for every person who volunteered, donated, or prayed for those affected by Harvey and Irma, and those already working to help others in the midst of Maria. These actions state that other people--even strangers from another place--are inherently worthy of respect, dignity, and care. I doubt that many of the volunteers and contributors and prayer warriors see their actions as political. Yet they send a message that contrasts starkly with the current administration's violent rhetoric that casually threatens millions of human lives. Grant stamina to our compassion as the storms continue and the waters rise. Amen.
